POKOTABI / Tarui Bakery
タルイベーカリー
At Tarui Bakery near Sangubashi in Yoyogi, natural-yeast levain loaves, chewy hard sandwich breads, an-butter buns, and banana breads line a welcoming counter display.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A short walk from Sangubashi Station, Tarui Bakery is a compact, welcoming bakeshop where customers select loaves across an over-the-counter showcase. The bakery's defining identity rests in its hearty, crusty breads that foreground grain flavor and deep baking notes. Natural-yeast levain loaves come densely packed with raisins, cranberries, walnuts, and macadamias, unlocking multi-layered aromas with each chew. The hard toast—crisp and golden on the exterior with a moist, springy crumb inside—is a daily fixture appreciated across breakfast tables.
Tarui Bakery also makes full use of its doughs in sandwiches and sweet bakes. The an-butter sandwich, pairing clean-biting bread with moderately sweet red bean paste and rich butter, has developed a loyal following for its tidy balance. The shelves also feature dense banana bread, spiced chocolate banana bread, thoroughly baked scones, and herb-scented focaccia that pair as easily with afternoon tea as they do with a glass of wine. Colorful seasonal tartines and sausage dogs provide savory, satisfying meals on their own.
The shop floor fits only a few customers at a time, and all items are sold to go. Certain larger breads can be purchased in halved or sliced portions, making it easy to sample different recipes. Loaves often sell down by late afternoon, so visiting earlier in the day is best for the fullest selection. Operating hours run from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 to 18:00, and payments are accepted in cash and via PayPay.
